Kuzubağ çal Denizli rosé 2023

Çal Karası 46%, Kalecik Karası 54%

13,90€ at Istanbul airport

I had already heard about Kuzubağ winery but never had the chance to try their wines.

Kuzubağ is one of the newest wineries in Çal, Denizli region at an altitude of 850 metres. It was established in 2021 by the Kuzu family in their home town, Hançalar. The vineyards were first planted in 2007.

The soil is made of clay-loam and calcaire. 50 hectares are now cultivated.

Grapes are hand-harvested and processed using a gravity system.

It’s interesting to note that Kuzubağ is part of the Çal vineyard route with a couple of other local wineries.

I tried my first bottle of wine produced by Kuzubağ thanks to The Bono wine bistro in Istanbul.

I bought later 3 bottles, a rosé, a white and a red at Istanbul airport.

Let’s have a look at the rosé first!

I’m not into bold rosés so the pale salmon  colour tells me this wine has a chance to please me.

On the nose, a bright bouquet of fresh raspberries, wild strawberries, yellow peaches and rose petals.

It’s round and textural with a vivid character.

On the palate, strawberry again with citrus freshness like pink grapefruit and lemon.

The finish is clean and citrusy with notes of cherries, mint and minerality.

I’m a big fan of this wine. It’s a wonderful blend of two great local red grapes! Perfect for the summer! 8,75/10
