Acıkara is a rare indigenous grape rediscovered randomly by Likya winery. It is cultivated in the mountains at Elmali near Antalya at 1100 meters of altitude and planted on limestone. Its name means in Turkish “bitter black”. Likya winery is the only producer of this grape in Turkey.
The wine has a deep purple colour.
The texture is velvety, tannins are quite high and it usually has a long finish. Alcohol is also high at around !4-15%.
Aromas can be : Black cherry, plum, jam, chocolate, pepper, cocoa, leather and tobacco.
