Suvla winery, one of my favourite in Turkey, has a great wine restaurant in the Kanyon mall which is located in Levent.

Apart from the good international cuisine, they propose all of their wines by the glass. You can choose a regular size (15 cl) or a tasting size (5 cl). That allows you to taste the Reserve and the Grand Reserve vintage at a reasonable price (between 14 and 22 TL for the tasting glass).

The Reserve serie is matured in oak barrels for 3 to 12 months, bottles are ageing for 3 to 6 months and you can store them up to 5 years.

The Grand Reserve serie is matured in oak barrels for 6 to 24 months, botlles are ageing for 6 to 24 months and you can store them up to 10 years.

I have tasted for you 2 Reserve red wines and 3 Grand Reserve red wines.

1  SUVLA RESERVE CABERNET FRANC 2015

This wine is med ruby with pink rims. The nose is quite strong with black fruits, underwood, liquorice, mint and thyme. A strong herbal note! Full bodied, medium acidity, soft and round tannins, a classic example of a cabernet Franc! It was a bit unbalanced for me due to a kind of bitterness in the long finish. 7,510.

2  SUVLA GRAND RESERVE SYRAH 2013

This wine is deep ruby with a complex bouquet of red fruits (cherry, strawberry), mocha and thyme. Full bodied but still delicate, something is missing here. On the mouth I detected prune and even some flavours of liqueur or sherry… The finish is medium long. I’m not totally seduced by this Suvla Grand Reserve although I’m a big fan of the Reserve Syrah… 7,5/10.

3  SUVLA GRAND RESERVE KARASAKIZ 2015

This wine has a pale ruby dress with orange reflections. Quite typical for a Karasakiz! The nose is fantastic with aromas of mud, dried fruits. The texture is very delicate. It has flavours of cooked fruits, cherry jam, caramel and vanilla. The finish is medium long. All in all, a very pleasant wine, very elegant and persistent. 8,5/10.

4  SUVLA GRAND RESERVE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2015

This wine has a … yes, you guessed it, a Bordeaux dress… not surprising for a Cabernet Sauvignon! And what a delicate nose with subtle aromas of the forest like mud, mushrooms but also red current and tobacco! Tannins are high but very well balanced and soft. The palate is quite dry with flavours of strawberry, pepper and black tea. The finish is long with hints of mint and violets. The kind of wine you remember for long. 9/10.

5  SUVLA RESERVE MERLOT 2014

This wine is dark ruby with brick red rims. The nose is strong with aromas of strawberry jam, underwood, chocolate and mint. We have here good acidity and velvety tannins. All in all, it’s very well balanced. The palate is quite fruity with flavours of prune, black berry and again chocolate (dark). The finish is persistent. A very nice wine! 8,5/10.
