This lightly coloured red wine grape comes from Çal, a village in the Denizli province in the Aegean region. Its name means “the black of Çal”.
The colour of this grape is purplish black.
Çal Karası wines usually are fresh with high acidity and well balanced.
Aromas : Red fruits (raspberry, strawberry), ripe white fruits, peach, floral notes (rose), thyme.
A few wineries are cultivating this grape in Denizli province. Among them, the most famous are Paşaeli Kavaklidere, Sava and Ephesus. On my opinion, Paşaeli has the best results, especially with its rosé blush.
