Very shy nose with hints of chalk, lemon and apple.
Full bodied, medium acidity, buttery, fat texture.
First taste is overwhelmingly oaky.
After some time when it got warmer, all the typical flavours of an oaky Chardonnay appeared : apple, pear, brioche, honeysuckle, almond, acacia and vanilla.
The taste is very French… not surprising that a Frenchman is behind this.
Nevertheless I would have preferred a less oaky taste. I can’t say it’s perfectly well balanced.
Some people don’t like oaky Chardonnay. I do but It’s really too much.
You can feel some potential though. I hope the next vintage will be more subtle with less time spent in the barrel.
Would pair well with some fatty fish like salmon.
