Everything started with the Bulutsuz and Gülbay families who bought a closed winery in 2012 in Uçmakdere (Oriental Thrace). They called it « Firüze” – turquoise. Hence the stone on the label.
After having modernised it, the team decided to source grapes from local vineyards all around the country.
Why not harvesting its own vineyards? They wanted to revitalise other vineyards and help villagers to take care of their old vines.
This Chardonnay for instance comes from Denizli region. It has aged in Uçmakdere facility in American and french oak barrels for 8 months.
Let’s now taste this wine :
On the nose : yellow and green apple, citrus blossom, white peach and ripe pear, fennel, honeysuckle and some toasted notes.
Medium acidity, medium + bodied.
Slightly oily. Lots of freshness. It’s very layered.
Flavours on the palate : Yellow apple, honeysuckle, fennel, butter, white flowers and lemon.
A very refreshing long finish.
This Chardonnay is so different in style. It has its own personality.
I would pair it with some fatty fish like a sea bass.
